The Ministry of Education of Spain announces over 1,200 openings for U.S. and Canadian Language & Culture Assistants ("CULTURAL AMBASSADORS") in Spain, for the  2010-2011 school year.
The positions are offered in the K-12 public school system.


Please note:

It has come to our attention that some unscrupulous people are offering to falsely provide services for a fee.

The Embassy of Spain´s Education Office in the United States and Canada DOES NOT CHARGE ANY APPLICATION FEES for services provided in respect of The Language and Culture Assistants program.

Please, promptly contact us if you are in any way asked to pay for any services in connection with this program.

 

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The program provides Spanish students and teachers of English or French an opportunity to broaden and increase their knowledge of the English or French language and North American culture through interaction with native speakers.

The Assistants will also have the opportunity to learn about the Spanish language and culture and use their experience upon their return to the United States or Canada, thus developing cultural understanding between the citizens of Spain and the United States of America and Canada.

The Spanish Autonomous Regions will assign all candidates, individually, an elementary or secondary school.  Candidates may not choose a particular city. The Ministry and some of the Regional Education Authorities will organize orientation seminars at the beginning of the school year.

 


 

 I. Participation Requirements

Candidates will

    • Be a national of the U.S. or Canada and hold a valid passport.
    • Be a native English/French speaker.
    • Be a Junior or Senior college student or have successfully completed a BA, BS, MA or MS by the end of the current academic year.
    • Be in good mental and physical health.
    • Have a minimum  intermediate level of the Spanish language.

Applications will be submitted online and sent to our central server in Madrid. All applications will be processed electronically by means of the  "Profex" system. Candidates can start their application process now by by clicking on "2010 - Auxiliares de conversación extranjeros en España " on  the Profex home page.

Once your application has been "inscrita", mail the following documents to your assigned office:

 

Additionally, candidates may also add the following documentation in order to support their information stated in their CV, such as:
  • Teaching experience or other work experience.
  • Experience living or studying abroad.
  • Official Spanish-language Diplomas (DELE or others).
  • Knowledge of other languages different from English or Spanish.
  • Other college degrees/qualifications different from those required to apply.
  • Other information that may be useful for the Spanish schools.

Positions will be assigned on a first-come first-served basis provided that candidates meet all the requirements, conveniently support their applications and they have the targeted profile for the participation in this program. An application is considered "fully submitted" ("admitida") when the hard copies have been sent and its reception and clearance has been acknowledged by the assigned office on Profex. Please see Section 2 of the PROGRAM MANUAL.

Accepted candidates will be notified of their assigned region in Spain by email after the deadline. 

All efforts will be made for the candidates to be assigned their first choice region. However it cannot be guaranteed.

Candidates must accept or decline their grant within five days after they have been notified. Unjustified delays in responding within this time frame will be taken into account in future program editions.
